Our Team




The Moghissi Laser Trust bears the name of Professor Keyvan Moghissi BSc MD MS(Chir) FRCS(Ed) FRCS(Eng) FETCS Membre Associe Academie de Chirurgie (Paris).


Professor Keyvan Moghissi who is a Cardio Thoracic Surgeon is known worldwide for his research especially into PDT. He is Editor in Chief of a medical journal, PDPDT, published by Elsevier, which has a worldwide readership. He was the first President of The European Platform for Photodynamic Medicine.


The Yorkshire Laser Centre is the ‘working arm’ of the Laser Trust Fund. Apart from Professor Keyvan Moghissi, who gives his time and expertise free to the project, we have five permanent members of staff:


  • Kate Dixon BA (Hon): Director/Manager and Honorary Secretary to both the Laser Trust and the Yorkshire Laser Centre (YLC) is responsible for overall administration of the YLC and is also in charge of laser usage including all technical aspects and patient liaison.

  • Professor Peter Dyer: Scientific Director.

  • Sally Gibbins (RGN): Clinical Nurse specialist, trained in aspects of laser & laser applications.

  • John Dixon: Technician and researcher, trained in aspects of laser & laser applications.


Our treatment and research work has allowed us to:


  • Publish many clinical and scientific papers

  • Give numerous presentations at scientific meetings

  • Run training sessions for doctors/nurses at the YLC

  • Accept invitations to run training sessions abroad 

  • Involve local multi-disciplinary groups with interests in PD & PDT 


In addition we are a specialist training centre for Photodynamic Therapy for PDT to bronchus and oesophagus and run training days and symposia on Photodiagnosis and PDT generally.


We have supported a number of student sponsorships at local universities which has led to PhD Physics, MSc Microbiology, MSc Physics and MSc Information Technology

Over the years the YLC has expanded into several areas of treatment as well as lung and oesophagus. These include:


  • General Surgery
  • Colo-rectal
  • Urology
  • Gyneacology
  • Dermatology


Our fields of research have also expanded into:


  • Early detection of cancer
  • The use of PDT in gynaecological applications
  • Treatment of early stage tumours using PDT

Our mobile unit has been successfully used at Birmingham Hospitals, Leeds General Infirmary, Scunthorpe General Hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, Hull being regularly attended. It has also been used for training purposes in Wales and Scotland and has been the subject of much interest from Europe and China.
